New Survey Finds Why Rising Numbers Of American Using Filtered Water 2022-08-11

Results of a new survey conducted for NSF reveal that while the majority of U.S. consumers (71%) drink tap water, more than half (55%) are concerned or not concerned about contaminants in drinking water.

A survey announced the results of its fourth annual National Water Quality Survey, according to a March 2022 survey of 2,246 U.S. adults, more than three-quarters of Americans (77%) say they use a 4396710 water filter in their home -- an all-time high for the annual survey. As more Americans choose to filter their drinking water for domestic use, trust in bottled water continues to decline.

According to the survey, the most common motivations for using a water purifier at home were health benefits (42%), environmental friendliness (41%), and a lack of trust in the quality of drinking water (37%). Additionally, more than one-third of Americans (36%) said they dislike the taste of water.

Heath

Regarding health, proper hydration is essential to keep your body in good shape. However, not all water is equally beneficial. Drinking contaminated water puts your health at risk, so some might argue that using clean, filtered water is just as important as hydration itself.

Environment

MoreFilter Water filters are a more sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bottles. The average American uses 167 single-use bottles each year, 80% of which end up in landfills and take 450 years to decompose. In addition to prompting Americans to filter tap water in their homes, the survey also found that eco-consciousness has grown significantly as a driving force behind Americans' buying behavior. In fact, almost half of Americans (45%) say they "always" look for products to buy because they're environmentally sustainable, a 67% increase from 2021 (27%).

Water Quality

More than half of U.S. residents surveyed said they are concerned about the quality of unfiltered tap water in their homes, a 50% increase from 2021 (34% to 51%). Additionally, two-thirds of Americans (69%) believe it is necessary to filter tap water at home, up from 63% in 2020. More than half (53%) of respondents believe filtered water is the most trusted option for clean drinking water in 2022.
